- The unemployment rate in Spain, doubles the average of the 27 members (9.9%), triples that of Germany, quadruples Holland´s (4.4%), and is even five times greater than Norway´s (3.6%). The rate in Spain is greater than in Portugal (11.1%), Ireland (14.9%), and Greece (14.1%). Not even the poorest EU states reach the unemployment rate in Spain. Lithuania and Latvia, for example, have a rate of 17.4% and 17.3%, respectively.
